Yet another radio? This is a second FTM-350 that I bought some time ago from Dave M6DHV in Barrow in Furness.
I’ve installed it on the dash board of my Nissan X-Trail, and after a week or so using the standard Yaesu microphone and remembering how much of a pain in the backside it is I decided to purchase a cheap (£22) hands free microphone kit off eBay.
Well the kit arrived in less than 48 hours, and took less than two minutes to fit. The RJ45 plugs straight in to the head unit and the microphone clips straight on to a piece of the trim on the A-pillar. Cables are thin enough to tuck behind the trim (I like neat) and the spare cable is coiled up in the cubby hole on the dash. The microphone PTT is house in a small box with a SPST switch and LED to show PTT active. This is mounted on the left hand side of the head unit within easy reach but not where I can knock PTT on to lock.
The microphone works very well, good audio reports from everyone. The whole kit is simple to install – a neat unit which I can well recommend. This British made bit of kit as extremely good value for money and knocks the socks off similar more expensive gear.
If you are looking for a cheap option for mobile you can’t go wrong with this!
